For more than 40 years, John Folawn has helped shape law in Oregon and counseled clients on matters across the Pacific Northwest. Working on select cases, John's practice focuses on complex civil litigation in a variety of areas, including legal malpractice, business and commercial disputes, real estate, insurance coverage, and trust and estate litigation. John is still regarded as one of the best jury trial lawyers in Oregon. Since entering private practice in 1976, John has successfully tried hundreds of civil cases, including nearly 200 civil jury cases to verdict. In addition, he has an appellate practice involving more than 40 cases in the Oregon Court of Appeals, the Oregon Supreme Court, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. As Of Counsel for Folawn Alterman and Richardson LLP, John now represents select clients on legal matters and assists the firm with legal strategies as needed. Additionally, John is available for mediation on a select basis.

In 1967, John graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree, and in 1970 earned his law degree from the University of California (Hastings). Before entering private practice, John served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps where he prosecuted serious felonies.
